I started making candles the Christmas after I bought my first home. It
was a financially tough time, but I wanted to give Christmas gifts to family and
friends. I had seen some candles that I really liked at a furniture store
and drove right next door to a craft store to purchase all of the supplies that
I would need to get started. I did not realize that I would not only be
starting a new hobby, but also a small business.
I made many candles that holiday season, and learned some valuable lessons as
well. I learned that peppermint candy can catch fire... well, that lesson
taught me that there is a whole lot more to making candles than just putting a
wick and some wax into a mold.
I continued to practice making candles for myself and also gave my failures
away to friends and family as well. At some point my failures weren't so
bad anymore and people started asking for them.
I think the official turning point in my candle making was when I made
candles for the guests at my wedding. That was about as much practice as I
needed to feel comfortable in my skills. I was surprised to discover that
people kept talking about how wonderful my candles were (even more than how
wonderful my wedding was). They encouraged me to go into business... and
here I am!
I hope you enjoy my candles as much as I enjoy making them.
Please send me an e-mail and let me know
what you think!
